What is the difference between a markup and a margin?

Markup is the percentage increase in price over the cost of an item, while margin is the profit as a percentage of the selling price.

Example: Recycled Sell price = $100, applying a 25% markup equates to List Price = $125.

The Margin between List price = $125 and Sell Price = $100 equals 20% margin.
